Meet the Duo

Charity Haney

Charity Haney is a 21-year retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief where she served as flutist, piccoloist, and conductor for the Navy Bands.  She toured and performed throughout the United States at high visibility events, concerts, and military ceremonies.  She led woodwind trios, quintets, conducted ceremonial bands, concert bands, wind ensembles, and was the Director of Bands for U.S. Recruit Training Command.  She has been a guest speaker for military related events as well as the moderator for Veteran panels.

Charity currently performs with the Florida Flute Orchestra at national and state conventions.  An avid alto flutist, she was selected to perform in the Professional Low Flute Orchestra on alto flute for the 2024 International Low Flute Conference.  Outside of the Navy, Charity has conducted the Daytona State College Flute Choir and performed with the First Coast Wind Symphony, Chesapeake Bay Wind Ensemble, and San Diego Lyric Opera.

Charity is also a certified Grief Educator by world renowned death and grief expert, David Kessler, Certified Grief Yoga® Instructor, Soul Midwife, Registered Yoga Teacher-200, and a trauma informed teacher for the non-profit, Yoga 4 Change.  She founded Soul’s Lighthouse, LLC, where all of Charity’s gifts merge to foster safe spaces for healing.  

Charity has presented Stretch and Refresh and Transform Pain and Anxiety through Movement clinics at Florida Flute Conventions and at the 2026 International Low Flute Conference. While “Musical Memories”, a unique, flute duo recording of a loved ones’ favorite song with dedication, provide people a way to honor their grief and remember loved ones’ on their Angelversary (day of passing).

Charity received a Master’s in Human Resource Development from Webster University and a Bachelors in Music Education from James Madison University. 

Bethany Atwell

Bethany Atwell is a versatile flutist and piccoloist based in Jacksonville, Florida. A member of the First Coast Wind Symphony, Bethany is a frequent performer throughout the region and a regular presence at the Florida Flute Convention. She is a founding member of the Jacksonville Flute Duo, for which she has curated an extensive library of custom arrangements, showcasing her creative approach to repertoire for flute ensembles of all sizes.

Bethany’s performance history includes serving as the piccoloist for the Tallahassee Winds and performing in numerous chamber ensembles at Florida State University. A dedicated leader in the flute community, she previously served as the Music Director of the Tallahassee Flute Club and has extensive experience directing and performing with flute choirs. She has studied under the tutelage of Jennie Brown, Roma Duncan, Margaret Rowland, and Wendy Williams, and has performed in masterclasses for luminaries such as Paula Robison, Walfrid Kujala, Rhonda Larson, and Julia Bogorad-Kogan.

Bethany balances a high-profile career in venue management with a vibrant life as a professional musician and community leader. Currently the Director of Ticketing for the Florida Theatre in downtown Jacksonville, Bethany is a Certified Venue Professional (CVP) through the IAVM, with a distinguished track record at organizations including the Coppell Arts Center in DFW and Opening Nights at Florida State University.

Passionate about community access to the arts, Bethany currently serves as a Board Member with the First Coast Wind Symphony and is a former Board Member with the Tallahassee Youth Orchestras. She holds a Bachelor of Music from Wheaton College and a Master of Arts Administration from Florida State University.
